You climbed on your soft, feathery bed and stared out of the window. Tea party was over because Ms. Lady Bug fell asleep in the middle of the talk. And it was over nine o'clock – you knew because even though the small hand still pointed at nine, the big hand had been a little bit ahead – so you were supposed to already be sleeping as well. But you didn't want to sleep yet. You were far too excited to sleep at the moment.

Daddy finally kept his promise and he will take you to the zoo in the morning!

You still remembered the last time you came to the zoo. It was pretty long ago. You always loved animals so the zoo was like a paradise! Granny was worried about you, for you were running around very quickly and she couldn't follow; she was afraid that you could get lost. Despite being extra playful that day, you weren't lost since it was just a small zoo near your house. Your old house.

But this time, it would be different! Daddy promised that he would take you to a big zoo – much, much bigger than the one you visited years ago. That was why although Mommy told you to be a good girl and sleep early, you were still awake. You felt guilty but the excitement was too big.

Your mind wandered. You snuggled Mr. Fluffy close to you and stroked his fur.

"Mr. Fluffy, do you think there will be bears? I hope there will. I love bears," you pointed at the numerous scrawled drawings taped on your wall. There were fairies, rocket and stars, some other animals, but mostly bears drawn a little bit more carefully with brown and yellow crayon, some even with markers. You were proud of the drawings.

"I want their fur to be like your fur, but I can't find the same color," you giggled and pressed the beige colored soft fur of the stuffed teddy against your chubby cheeks. "I want to see white bears, too. What do people normally call white bears, huh Mr. Fluffy?"

You didn't wait for him to answer, but jumped off the bed and ran towards your little bookshelf. Once your favorite colored books about animals was held firmly in your small hands, you quickly jumped back to the softness of the blanket and Mr. Fluffy.

"Hmm, let's see," you turned the pages, mimicking what Daddy usually did whenever he needed to solve a problem. "Ah, here we are! White polar bears!"

Drawn on the page titled "Polar Bears" were two big white bears standing on blue-ish ice. They looked so big but not scary at all. Actually, they looked as if they were shy. And they reminded you…

"Mr. Fluffy, do you think they look like… Kuma…", you struggled to remember the long name, "Kumajirou? Do you think so?"

Oh yes, sure he did. You clutched Mr. Fluffy tightly and stared out of the window again. It was dark out there. There was a big, black, and somehow furry silhouette that stayed in the way between you and the moon. At first you were scared and squeeze your eyes shut, thinking it was a Bugaboo that came because you did not sleep at nine. But Mr. Fluffy made you more courageous, so you opened your eyes just a little bit and took another look. It was not a Bugaboo; it was just the big tree in your backyard. You let out a sigh of relief and giggled at your silliness.

The tree made you thought of the big tree in your new kindergarten, and suddenly a name came to your mind. Mattie! You were going to pinky swears with him when your teacher came to take you back to class. Too bad because he was going to be your friends and he was going to promise to never ever tease you. Things were going to be same as before again; you would have a friend… You wanted to see the blonde boy holding that white bear – no, polar bear – again so badly.

You still remembered what one of your old friends once told you. She said, with a rare serious face, that it is bad luck if something came and stop you from pinky swearing with somebody, and that you and that 'somebody' wouldn't be able to pinky swear ever again! If it was really so, then… there would be no other way than the trick Granny told you…

All the thinking made you tired and fell asleep with Mr. Fluffy in your arms before you even knew it.

"Matthew Williams?"

"H-Here!"

The teacher looked around as if waiting for an 'Absent' from the other nine-year-old kids standing in a messy line in front of her.

"Matthew Williams? If you're there then answer or I will mark you absent."

"Oh gosh, Matt, bro, you gotta say it louder! Here, Miss, Williams' here!"

Alfred's loud and husky voice finally caught the teacher's attention. She sighed.

"Matthew, you have to speak a little louder. Your voice is like a whisper; I can't hear you at all, dear! And there are so many of you, I can't see you a- Francis, Arthur, you must not strangle each other!"

With another tired sigh she ran over to the two blonds.

"Yo, everything alright, Matt?"

Matthew turned away from his cheerful brother. Boy, did he hate this kind of activities! If it wasn't Al who half pursued, half dragged him there, he wouldn't be joining this trip with the whole class at all. It wasn't like he didn't like social activities. It was just… Whenever something happened that involved his whole class, it couldn't be good news. Besides, even if the day was peaceful, it would still be some kind of light mental torture for Matthew: being unnoticed even when there were so many people around.

The teacher finally succeeded in separating Arthur and Francis – one could call them 'arch enemies', if those things still existed these days – and made sure they were never together. In a still very messy line, the kids stepped on the bus.

"Here goes nothing…" Matthew let out a huge sigh as he dropped himself on a seat next to the window.

Zoo day!

Daddy was right; the zoo was HUGE! You nearly flew away on your little legs the moment you passed the arched gateway, leaving Mommy, Daddy, and dear Granny flustered because of the chaos. Behind the enormous steel bars, there were so many different animals. You ran and ran and ran, only stopped occasionally to tip toe to look, because you were short. Sometimes, the only thing you could see was a maze of people's legs.

After looking up as high as you could to try and say hi to the giraffe, you heard a loud roar from nearby. You ran over to the roaring lion and stuck your tongue out:

"I'm not afraid of you! Neehh~~"

Granny would surely laugh if she saw you sticking your tongue out…

Thinking that, you suddenly remembered something. Fear ran down your spine and made you shivered even before you turned around to find…

Nobody.

You had been lost in the middle of this chaotic crowd.

After the frightening realization, you tried to find your way to the gateway while tears were starting to spill over your eyelashes. But there were so many people, they were all walking and their legs looked as if they were weaved together. Your tears were welling up so it was even harder to find a way. You felt as if you were a fly stuck in the spider net. This trip to the zoo was suddenly no longer so interesting and exciting.

You continued to run, and then fell down, tripping over an empty soda can. Your knee crashed on the hard ground. It hurt. Trembling, you stood up and continued to run. But it didn't took so long for you to stop, because you bumped into something – no, someone.

"Ow! Hey, watch where you…"

Arthur looked down, thinking it was just another uncontrollably excited kid that smashed his sloppy nose against his trousers again. But, instead, he gasped when he saw a tear streaked face, red from crying, of a tiny little girl about five years old. Her [eye color] irises were wider than ever with fear and panic, yet they were still bright in a lovely way behind the dropping tears. She fell down on her back and remained sitting there, panting, sobbing and rubbing her teary eyes. She was so adorable that even though Arthur didn't like little kids in general, he felt bad for her. So he bent down and gently patted her head. Her hair felt soft, like cotton. He was about to say something to comfort her, when…

"Oh my, Artie, what 'ave you got zere? Are you bullying zis cute lil' girl?"

The familiar French accent made Arthur wants to stand up and strangle that annoying blond. Francis.

"No, she was crying while running and just bumped into me. I was going to help her, so if you're just here to annoy the hell out of me then go away, Frog face."

With an exaggerated hurt expression, Francis theatrically put one hand on his heart and said with a slight smirk.

"My Artie, 'ow can you be so cruel and cold to such beauty…"

"Shut up! You're no beauty, and if I hear another "My Artie", I swear I'll…"

"Artie dear, you're scaring 'ze little girl!", Francis pointed to the girl who had stood up with her hand slightly shielding her face defensively. He then looked at Arthur mockingly, his half-lidded blue eyes focused on the unnaturally thick eyebrows. "I 'ave told you before; those scare little kids away."

"There's no such thing! She isn't scared of me!"

Arthur gave the defeated Francis a smug look when the girl shifted away from Francis' gaze to hide behind the British boy. She fell down again and he bent down to check if there was something wrong.

"'Ze girl is bleeding!", Francis exclaimed loudly, gaining many looks in return. Some of his classmates curiously ran over to the two blond boys who never got along.

It was never so easy for Matthew to find his way to somewhere among a crowd, and it was certainly not at the moment. He was nearly squished between his bulkier classmates just on his way to the noisy center of attention at the moment. Normally he'd never turn his attention to such things; he always kept himself in a corner to quietly watch everyone, speaking up or offering help only when he felt like his presence wasn't a nuisance – little did he know that his solutions had always been very efficient and it was such a waste how they were usually abandoned. But for some reason he felt extra curious and just couldn't resist his urge to follow everyone. Wondering what had got into him, he tried to take several steps further and finally got to where the teacher and his two friends Arthur and Francis were standing – well, not just standing apparently.

It was not a bad decision though. Matthew couldn't believe his own eyes when he saw someone that he thought he'd never be able to meet again.

The situation was… in confusion. His teacher desperately tried to ask the teary ____ who she was and where her parents were while restraining Arthur and Francis from fighting at the same time. As much as he wanted to laugh, Matthew walked past the two blonds who were verbally attacking each other with their inappropriately colorful vocabulary – right in front of the teacher, too (how daring!).

He sat down next to the teacher and put a hand on ____'s shoulder, whispering her name. His worried violet-blue eyes met the sweet [eye color] blurred with tears. She looked so small, fragile and frightened. Her red cheeks were wet with tears; she must have cried a lot. Her knee was bleeding, and she got scratches as well as bruised on both her legs and in her palms – which meant she fell down a number of times. She seemed tired and sleepy.

In fact, she flung herself into Matthew's arms, almost subconsciously, even before her soft mutter "…Mattie…", and landed right on his chest. The tiny fingers lightly tugged onto his woolen hoodie.

"You know her, Matthew?", the teacher asked questioningly.

"Y-Yes… but I've only met her once. A-And I only know her kindergarten; I don't know her home address o-or her parents' phone numbers or anything," Matthew replied, a bit embarrassed. The teacher never talked directly to him before, mainly because she couldn't hear him and barely notice him in the classroom.

"That's fine; at least you're someone she knows. The poor girl just won't stop crying and doesn't answer any of my questions. I think she's lost and in a panic. We should see the manager and ask him to help find her parents. But since…", she turned around to shot a weary glance at Arthur and Francis, "…I have to be here to keep everything… under control, can I rely on you, Matthew? You have the map of the zoo and all, right?"

"I-It's okay, Miss, I can… I can handle it."

Matthew gulped before he lifted little ____ on his back.
Finally, the second part!

Thank you so much for supporting me *cries* I never thought you'd like my little story.

I'm sorry for taking so long. Actually I planned for this second part to also be the last - I don't like long series - but I got wordier than I expected. So... There is still a third part, and you'll need to wait... again. ^^

Also, sorry that this isn't as "cute" as the first one. And it's a bit too long, too. Sorry... I need to learn to control the length of my writings, seriously.

I hope you enjoy this. I love it when you :+fav: my work; it's a huge motivation, but comments are even more appreciated. Please, :iconcommentplz:.

Thank you for reading.
